  1. The British Council,is saying that Spanish Ministry of Education is hiring teachers to teach the English component of an integrated Spanish/English Curriculum starting from 3-16 year old children in the spanish schools. This is a conection project between the British Council and the Spanish Ministry of Education which has been in operation since 1996.

In recent years, countries across Europe have seen an increase in bi-lingual education as a way of preparing young people for future work, study and life in an increasingly multilingual and integrated Europe. This conection initiative between the British Council and the Spanish Ministry of Education to introduce a bilingual, bi-cultural curriculum in 80 infant and primary schools and in corresponding 44 secondary schools sits very comfortably within this development.

The project is in its fourteenth year, and the first groups of children, now aged fifteen and sixteen are clearly demonstrating the benefits of being taught a curriculum in both Spanish and English, where they study approximately the same number of hours each week. A recent evaluation report has noted the following successes:

Interest and motivation on the part of the children
    The enthusiasm of the parents
A growing sense of satisfaction from head teachers in schools, many of which are in economically deprived areas
Learning in two languages not only contributes to the progress of the children in their first language, but would appear to assist the children's cognitive development.

Initially, 44 UK primary teachers were engaged by the Spanish Government to teach in schools. This number has now increased to 250, and gradually more Spanish teachers of English (930) are being brought on board to teach a diverse curriculum in English which includes subject areas from both the Spanish and the English National Curriculum.

  2. I think that this is a good idea because children learn English and knowledge about subjects. And in future it's better because people need know english for a lot of things

  3. I agree with the bilingual schools.
I consider that teachers can´t teach enough English with four hours every week.
It´s a good idea,if they learn since they´re children because they will get a perfect level of English.
Nowadays English is very important for everything (looking for a job)

  4. I think the Ministry should require to schools a higher english level, but schools shouldn´t teach subjets with all the contents in English because students will not have these skills in their native language.

Also, we have to take into account, the difficulty for students without a good english level, because they have to study all the contents without even knowing what it means.

I agree with bilingual schools and the subjects impart in English, but based on a minimum english level, because there are a lot of bilingual schools that nowaday dont´t have this minimum english level.

  5. I have mixed feelings about the system that the bilingual schools are using. I worked for two years in a public bilingual school and two years in "concertado" bilingual schools, and although the programs have their good points, there are a lot of aspects that I would change.

The most important problem is that most teachers don't have access to enough training in order to teach in a "bilingual" enviroment. I think that more money should be invested in scholarships to send teachers abroad to 1) improve their fluency and 2) gain experience in a classroom. That way, they can properly learn all of the expressions that they will use in class and that the children will imitate.

In my opinion, the biggest advantage to bilingual schools is that the students at these schools are more receptive to listening to foreign languages and trying to understand. This makes it easier for them to learn.

  7. I think it's totally necessary to have bilingual schools today because without knowing this language can not work in any other country in the world. At first it will be difficult because, as Clara says many children do not have a sufficient level to meet a lot of stuff in English but since they are small they are forced to understand and manage the English as one more thing, when they are older speak the language as their own and will have their work life easier

  9. I think it's a good idea to have bilingual schools. This is a way to prepare the children to the future and also to increase their knowledge.

In my opinion should hire more teachers with the ability of teaching in schools with the right english level, and also increase the number of bilingual schools. Because, since recent evaluation report all have been advantages for children: interest and motivación, the enthusiasm of the parents, a growing sense of satisfaction…

Nowadays it's an advantage for some childs to form part of a bilingual school, because they will communicate perfectly in English when they end, and this will open the doors to the future.

  10. I think that State inverts in biligual education because is very profitable in the long term, because these children will work in better jobs than the children who don't speak English, then the previous inversion will be returned. Also to know English is enriching for the child, because He/She can access to knowledge that in Spanish couldn't access and to communicate with people from other countries who speak English. In the other hand it impoverishes other languages because knowledges is only traduce to English, and not to all languages.

  11. I totally agree wtih Kate.
Also, I have to add that now are emerging schools with the motto: equi-lingual school: 50%in english, 50%in spanish.
The problem with this schools is how they are going their curricullum? what are they really teaching the teachers. English teachers and spanish teachers feel that they are using the same way of teaching?

  12. Tha´s perfect for us, as a bilingual future teachers! I agree with the Education Ministry but they should not hire teachers from the British Council, they should instruct spanish teachers.

  13. I agree with you. We have to get oneself some culture. The bilingual schools is the best way to do this.

English is the universal language, and therefore, the new generations have to learn this as his second language.

  14. I think that this idea is very good, because if we start to learn to the children the english since they have a few years...when they are older will be able to speak both languages to perfection. And in a future, they found work with greater ease.

  15. It´s that Spain needs. Other European countries have a good english level, but in Spain, all is different.
With this project our children will have the same opportunities that other children in Europe in the same situation
