  1. The locals are among the best prepared in the country.

Madrid is the Spanish region with more Universities, 15 centers. When they finish high school, students from all over Spain come to the community to further education. Overall, 1.8 million locals have high academic qualifications.
However, the population of Madrid has a large number of illiterate people or people with minimal education. 21.2% of the inhabitants of the region lack the education or have attained only primary education, according to INE. In total, 1.1 million people of Madrid have a maximum High School Graduated.
In spite of the level of qualified, in recent years has increased the number of illiterates, especially the influx of immigrants. In 2004, the same survey by INE, threw a percentage of 15.4% of adults with basic training.

First of all, I've only summarized the most important parts of the text, but for me it’s pretty funny because the headline say “The locals are among the best prepared in the country” and also the region with more Universities and some are the most prestigious in Spain. however, 21.2% are more or less illiterate people, that’s pretty odd, isn’t it?.
But perhaps the saddest part is, that they blame the immigrants for this situation, which I think is absurd, since it is true that there are immigrants with a very basic training, but there is now what they call "Generation Ni Ni", and as far as I know, They’re to blame for all of this situation of illiteracy among young people today.

  2. Alberto I don´t agree with you, I think you are a bit confuse with the pieces of information and the difference between REGION (COMUNITY) of Madrid and Madrid CITY. It is means 34,6% of adults who live in Madrid CITY have higher education AND 21.2% of the habitants of the REGION of Madrid (including Madrid city) have attained only primary education; the rest of them have another diferent education. In the 21.2% you have to add people who live in the countryside inside of the REGION of Madrid (people who in general are very old) and of course, the immigrants. Anyway, it is sad but it is an actual situation, so, the only thing we can do it is wait and pray for this situation end as far as possible.

  3. I absolutly agree with this article because it is not fair to blame illiterate on inmigration, as it is well know that the new generation of the Ni-Ni are raising the percent of the illiterate population.
As we all know are the generation that do not want to study nor work, so what can we espect from this generation? Maybe that is the question, and perphaps a very big problem comming up.

  4. I think that young people don´t study and don´t work are the real problem, because the inmigrants as a minimun work and they contribute to the economy of the country, but the people do anything are the real cause of the illiteracy among young people today.

  5. I also agree with this article, in my opinion but in recent years young people are preparing academically, with masters and learn several languages, all the statistics displayed the famous falls when generation Ni-Ni, which I really do not interested in anything, not studying, not working ... but of course it is much easier blames this situation to immigrants, to accept this reality.

I totally agree with this article. Spain is having a hard time with the teenagers because they have no interest in studing or working. I think that this problem has been caused by the government, because in the 10 last years they are giving to many facilities. They worry about the school failure and not about the Spanish population finishing secondary education shapely.

  7. I agree with this article. In my opinion Madrid is the best Spanish comunity to study because you can find all university grades even bilingual grades.

About illiterate people I think there's illiterate inmigrants and Spanish. But I think that Spanish people between 6-60 years old is not illiterate because they had to go to the school since 16 years old. I know that maybe some people didn't do it but it isn't a common think, is it?

  8. I totally agree with you, Carla.

In Madrid you can fin all the university grades you want but you can't find them in others comunity. That is why I am here. In Malaga there wasn't bilingual grades.

  9. I agree with Alberto, Madrid is a really good community to study because you have a lot of different options, but now day young people don't use the opportunities of study in good schools, like the good ones that are in Madrid, the teenager are losing all the interesting of study.
And is really to that the people is more formed, related to the academic level, because if you want to work if you are more formed is more possible that you find somewhere to work.

  10. After reading your article I think your thinking or your attitude is totally wrong.

No one is blaming anyone for anything, but statistical data are not dsicutibles, since they are the result of studies.

It's about that immigration provides a higher rate of illiteracy that sorts out anything to do with the generation NI-NI, is a real fact and I think it also has no argument.

I also believe that the data are paradoxical but this is due to that we are talking about the Community of Madrid which is the most populous province in Spain with 6,445,499 inhabitants at January 1, 2010, more than in the eight provinces Andalusia.

On one side is studied in Madrid than in other smaller provinces, for the simple fact that in the provinces develop and flourish require skilled people. But for that very reason there are more migrants who come to Madrid, because it is easier to find unskilled labor.

As for the universities say that is a luxury to choose from different universities, where students are numerous qualifications and whose locations I think they are fairly distributed.

I think it's a very interesting topic of debate.

  11. I agree with the article too.
In my opinion, Spanish people, especially young people, every time try to study less because they lack a lot of interest for everything.
In addition, parents don´t well his "homework" either and they allow their children don´t study or work, and they only are interested in the results (the marks) of them.
In general, Spanish young population is declining in relation to the topic of the studies and the work. They prefer their parents do everything and they conform with it.
The Spanish mentality about this topic is rubbish and we should change this if we want improve the world.
    So...for what are we waiting?

  12. the problem is not the possibilities, the problem is the interest, the young people are not interested, but is true, that some people that was in the university haven't a work, this is very sad, these people are unfortunate.

  13. Immigration is culture, not a thing to criticize.
Nowdays kids don´t like to study just because their parents giv 'em all what they want.
They just don't know how it feels when they have to fight for something.

  14. I think that in itself is quite the education in this period and not for the immigrants if they did not want some very good teachers, many parents do not ignore their children and hence the generation Nini. I do not have a child that does nothing to educate you that good manners and good ways
