  1. Rubalcaba consider MIR for teachers

Government’s vice president, Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, considered the idea of introducing a system to become a teacher similar to MIR, period of time in which doctors get specialized in order to apply for a public place in hospitals.

Rubalcaba insisted that people should interpret this idea – said by him in the 25th Monographic of Education week of the Santillana Fundation - not as part of the politic debate but as an academic reflexion. However, these words will have an impact in society as same as happens with the ones that Rubalcaba pronounced about the need of share the difficulties of the foreign students between public and state-subsidised schools.

According to the idea of MIR for teachers Rubalcaba said: I think that the selection and permanent formation system is not solved at all. From today to 2020 schools are going to hire 200.000 teachers and the quality of education will depend on our correct or wrong choice.

The vice-president do not give details of how it would be the change of the current system but he admitted that it would bring problems.

Today, teachers have to obtain the Degree in Primary Education or a master of Secondary Education and the make an exam in order to have the possibility to apply for a place in public schools. The MIR process would be the next step. Once doctors get their title in Medicine, doctors have to make an exam to access to the specialization. Once they finish this practical period of four years, doctors can apply for a public place in hospitals.

However Rubalcaba insisted that Spain has advanced a lot in the last decades and its current situation is not so bad although the PISA report states the Spanish system in the group of developed countries but he also said that our current system suffer from important problems as the high school drop out rate that reach almost 30% of students.

  5. I think it's a good idea to reform the preparation of teachers, and I think it will also give them more prestige. I read an article about the education system in South Korea, which according to the PISA report of 2009 has the best education in the world. One main point was that teachers are very respected figures in the society. Maybe a more rigorous training would help teacher earn more respect as well as improve results in the schools.

  6. This article is the same that Inés.My opinion is the same:
I agree with Rubalcaba, although it´s an hard work for teachers because they have to study for many years, but they will develop their own knowledge and they can apply them with their children.
Nowadays, the study is very important because you can access more possibilities related with the job.

  7. I'm going to post the same comment I wrote in Ines's article, because it's the same article:

I consider the measure that Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba want to carry out is beneficial for the Spanish educational system.

In the same way that public health system requires a trial period as MIR for any candidate for a position in a health center, public education should make a similar system to choose their teachers away from mere theory in the present current.
It is as important a teacher with qualities for education as a doctor with qualities for medicine, and I consider these qualities aren't brought to light only with a theoretical exam belonging to a oppositions.
The dedication and passion for teaching can not be proved to a role, but must be shown over a period of time in real situations with real students and real conflicts.

Finally, I believe that reform in this field of the education system could generate for public schools a lot of specialists fully trained and active in their profession.
