  1. Too much TV may result in academic failure

Teenagers who watch several hours of television a day do worse at school and are less likely to graduate than their peers, a new study suggests.
The 20-year study involving nearly 700 families in upstate New York, US, found that those watching more than three hours of TV a day were twice as likely not continue their education past high school. The researchers say their study is the first to show that attention problems linked to TV viewing could be the cause of academic failure, since they controlled for learning difficulties and behavioural problems at the start of the study.
At age 14, most of the children watched between one and three hours of television each day, while 13% watched more than four hours, and 10% watched less than one hour. Their viewing habits remained nearly identical at ages 16 and 22.
Those who watched three hours or more hours of TV had an 82% greater chance of not graduating or falling behind compared with teens who watched less than an hour - even after controlling for other factors, such as the learning difficulties the teens had at age 14 and their socio-economical status.

  2. We can’t say that watching TV is damaging to our education, but, if you spend too much time watching TV it will be bad for you.
Nowadays children watch TV for a long time everyday, they spend too much time alone, because although their parents are at home, children usually are in their bedroom where they have got a TV set. So, the control is more difficult and they watch programmes that aren’t suitable for them because of their age. They learn there is an easier life and there is no need for you studying since if you work in TV you will get fame and a lot of money, then why are we going to make life difficult?
Some families have lunch and dinner watching TV, so they don’t talk, they say nothing about what happened during the day, there is no dialogue, they only “listen” TV

  3. When you're watching TV you spend a lot of time that could be use in other things like study, for example. I think that the TV isn't bad, but we should try not to watch it too much, the problem is that the programs are long, maybe thirty minutes, but with the spots are a hour or more, so if you want to see the TV you need time. Another problem are the programs, some children see +18 films or channels, I'm not saying that this is bad but we must moderate it.

  4. I agree with you. TV is not bad itself, it is bad how to use. it can be used for watch documetaries about History, Science even Maths. the fount of this problem comes from the original edutation. Parents must "control" the type of programmes their son watch and they must stay with them while they watch TV. Also, it should establish a schedule for watching TV.
I am aware this is very dificult and that it depends of the person too.

  5. Teachers should promote the good use of TV even internet. The problem is that the students don't find really atractive the idea of study because they have to read, memorize... Now there are more interactive activities in class so that we hope that these new methods motivate the students!

  6. I agree with Carla, we can teach them how to use the TV in an educational way and how long it's advisable to be seen.
Nowadays there are many channels and educational programs on TV, but there are also many television trash. I think the key is knowing how to dosed the children's time to watch TV, and when they see it, they must be accompanied by an adult, to prevent that any trash program.

  7. I agree with Alberto, there are a lot of educational programs, like english programs that are for teach english for different ages, and they're good.
Parents have to guide their children to control this things, it's not good to watch too much television. There are many things interesting and motivation for their children without TV.

  8. I think the TV is not bad, those who are bad are the parents who are not able, at their ages to make their child make good use of an appliance as indispensable as is the TV.
As my colleagues say the TV has wonderful programs with which children can learn, because children are children and need to develop and to know their reality and ¨ acutualmente TV is a reality.
If we did a study would find that most recaudadción on gifts are Christmas probablemnete merchandising products such as TV series LITTLE ME, HANNA MONTHANA, PATITO ETC ... so I say that TV is a reality, what happens is that Parents should show their children that things are right or wrong on the TV or how long it is healthy for children.
