  2. The Spanish Government first vice-president, Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, raised this Wednesday to implement a system aimed to form teachers similar to the “MIR” (period of specialization in sanitary centers that doctors have to pass before aspiring to a public post). Rubalcaba assured: " I believe that the system of selection and of permanent training is not solved; " from now until 2020 we are going to hire approximately 200.000 teachers, and the quality of education is going to depend directly on whether we succeed with this initiative or not.
The vice-president didn't give details on how they could modify the system, though he admitted that there would be problems. Now, after a Degree of Teaching of four years required for Primary school, or a degree plus a master for Secondary, all teachers wanting to practise in public schools must pass a competitive exam. The MIR process is the following one: once graduate, doctors have to sit an exam that grants them access to the specialization. After this formation, eminently practical, of four or five years, the doctors can apply to the posts offered by the hospitals.

Subsequently, Rubalcaba assured that the reformation wasn't going to be easy since it was necessary to revise and reform the existing decrees. Rajoy revised the mainstays of this reform, such as the freedom of parents not only to choose among the public schools and the private schools who receive money from the State, but also among different public centers and a common curriculum for the entire Spain or the public evaluation of the centers.

Rubalcaba insisted that Spain has moved forward in the last decades, and the Pisa report of the OECD places the Spanish system on the average of the developed countries, even though he assured that the Spanish system had to overcome many important challenges, as an early school dropout of 30 % of the students.

  3. My opinion:

I agree with that the Government and the Opposition raise this kind of reform since in order that a society moves forward and improves, the quality of education has to be really good. So then, the teachers should be recognized, be constantly trained and their career should be more prestigious. In addition, the Primary teachers should be the most prepared since in this period the child is the most receptive. During these years, the mind is formed and the future skills of the child will depend on the teachers. So, the idea of a MIR for the teachers is, in my opinion, an excellent idea and they should accelerate the process.

  4. I agree with idea of reforming the selection and hiring process of teachers. I think that this process would focus on the importance of practical training rather than only studying for exams. Since teachers play such an important role in society, I agree with Inés that these ideas should be developed into a real proposal.

  5. I consider the measure that Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba want to carry out is beneficial for the Spanish educational system.

In the same way that public health system requires a trial period as MIR for any candidate for a position in a health center, public education should make a similar system to choose their teachers away from mere theory in the present current.
It is as important a teacher with qualities for education as a doctor with qualities for medicine, and I consider these qualities aren't brought to light only with a theoretical exam belonging to a oppositions.
The dedication and passion for teaching can not be proved to a role, but must be shown over a period of time in real situations with real students and real conflicts.

Finally, I believe that reform in this field of the education system could generate for public schools a lot of specialists fully trained and active in their profession.

  6. I agree with the government and oposción in having to make a good teacher educators in your area. What I'm not so agree on is that a race down from 3 years and is now 4, have to stretch as a medicine. I think there are very good teachers who have studied in the old plan and we may well be, with or without MIR.

  7. As the MIR??? That´s a crazy idea!! First ,they said they had changed the sytem to a Degree´s Model to improve the competences of students and work more the practical tim. And now they want to add two or three years more of studyng??? For me it´s only a dark strategy dealed by Goverment and Oposition to promote private education getting more and more difficult the access the public access.

  9. The choice of teachers in schools is a basic task. They are, with the parents, the most important role in children's education. The selection of teachers have to meet certain contract requirements and interests should be prohibited by law.

  10. I desagree entirely with Rubalcaba.
In our degree we have 1 years to do practices in the schools and then we have the "oposiciones"..anything else? No pleaseee!!
I think that the teacher, when they end their degree are prepared to be a good teachers.

  11. In my opinion teachers don't need more years to do practices because when more learn is when you are alone for the problems. On the other hand I think that more years of education is not good because we end our studies too late.

  13. I agree with Rubalcaba, although it´s an hard work for teachers because they have to study for many years, but they will develop their own knowledge and they can apply them with their children.
Nowadays, the study is very important because you can access more possibilities related with the job.

  14. I agree with the option of the government, because I think the work of teachers is very important for the future of society and the persons holding these positions must be very well prepared and take their job seriously, I'm not according with Natalia because she says the government not should have added another year to careers that previously took 3 years.
My opinion is if this is necessary to be done, and if the future teachers will be more specialized and conscious about importance of doing their work is, we all rejoice in the future.
