Guided tour for kids in apple store. Apple store is organizing guided tours for kids. The reason of this tour is to learn how to use MAC OS X with a qualified instructors help in the funniest way. This tour is not just for kids, the aim is to bring the whole family together as they can improve their skills with their MAC, learning how to use the different apps like ilife or iwork that are included in MAC OS X. Also are organizing guided tours for teachers of primary and secondary schools. The aim is to bring the students class to the apple store and create a project with ilife that should last around ninety minutes. After, in another day, the students will show the result of this working time. During this visit, the apple store staff will give all kind of recommendations and advices. The students also will receive a t-shirt to remember the experience. The guided tours are free and are open for all the primary and secondary schools in Spain. If you wish some more information, visit your nearby apple store. I think that the guided tours for schools are a good trip for child learning fun, on the contrary, my opinion about the family tours is that it´s just a sales strategy. Anyway it is a free tour. www.applestore.com
It´s obvious that Apple is trying new strategies to get new customers but they actually have great devices for education appliance so these kind of tours may be used as formative experiences.
First, I think that these tours are unecessary. Children are already excited about technology, so they don't really need to be inspired by a trip to the Apple Store.
Second, I agree with Rafa that they are trying to promote their products, which aren't even made for children. Yes, children can learn using Apple technology, but those products are much too expensive for most families to buy and there are simpler and cheaper versions on the market. I think Apple wants to sell the brand name to the children, so that they want an Apple product because it's "cooler" than other versions of the same devices.
In conclusion, I don't think this kind of brand consumerism has a place in schools. Take the kids to the zoo or the "granja escuela" instead!
I agree with Kate when she said that this is like a promotion of Apple Store. If a school want to put new technologies can choose different marks and not use only the Apple's programs. But in reference with the text, I'm agree with the idea to teach new types of programs.
I believe that it is a good opportunity in order that both the parents and the children enjoy activities different from those that always we do and in order that they happen more time with his relatives. In addition if after every activity the students realize a synthesis of the realized activities the children will take part more and will enjoy more.
Of course, all products they do, make, build...is advertised. They promote the products for a better selling. But like any other products.
I find it good to learn MAC OS X, I remember I did a course of photoshop and dreamweaver and it was quite difficult to manage at the moment, so for a good start I think that is ok. Is similar as when you go to these excursions (how do you make cheese, or cristal bottles...) and you go once because you dont really need to know but from a good start I agree with Edu in a way. I dont find it harming at all, you just explore.
I don't agree with this kind of promocional excursions I think it monopolizes and limits the learning possibility of the children. We can use this excursion time to show the quantity, quality and posibilties of free software programs. It should be more usefull for the adult life of children, because a little percent of this children will be able to buy Apple products because they are more expensive than other products with similar characteristics.
On the other hand the free software programs and free operative sistems have a lot of advantages:
+ Low cost + Technological innovation: each usuary can add his/her knowledge and experience to the program + Independance of provider + Public correction + Software adaptation + Different lenguages
Even children learn values as sharing, independency respect brands, anticonsumerism,, do it yourself, ...
I consider that this is a strategy. They look for the promotion for example (doing t-shirts to children). I think that kids can do different kind of activities which relate with the contents of subjects that they are learning in the school.
I agree with this kind of excursions. It's true that I think is a form of advertising and take advantage for self-promotion but I see nothing wrong with children learning to use the Mac as they are quite different and I sure they will need to know this at some point in their lives. All that fun and help students in their formation is good.
I agree that this tour is only used as a strategy to promote products, and advertising. But I don't agree with this kind of tour at all. I think that this guided tour it's unnecesary to kids and families; this tour should do to people interested in buying any product of apple. Also in my opinion, for students of primary and secondary school, it's better to do excursions to another interesting places and learning other kind of things.
In conclusion I think it's unnecesary to do this tour, however it’s good to learn new things about new products and technology.
I think this is a good idea, because maybe that takes children to visit the factories of Bimbo or Fiesta can also be brought to Apple, is another alternative. You can also improve training in these technologies. Sounds good to me that the visit is free, as in other factories have to pay. I also agree that it is a way of promoting their products.
Instead of planning these activities, could make some that were more educational, for example making writing workshops, language ,about sports etc (all free). This is one more way of wasting time.
I think that taking children to Apple Store is a wrong idea. Follow the same idea that everyone, I think that with this kind of excursion, Apple is trying new publicity strategies by using children in order to sell more products. It is true that is important for children to have the knowledge about the new technological advances - as new programs, new applications and so on - and this kind of day trip can show them these new gadgets. However if teachers want to show students these advances I would prefer take them to science or technology fair.
Yes,the first that i though was that it's for advertising, this is, obviously a strategy, but in the other hand is a good way to have fun for children.
I have to be honest: I prefer Windows or Linux devices than MAC. I think MAC is too much expensive for what they really offer, so teaching kids to use them it's ok if in the future he or she is going to work with thoses computer at work. However i think it's a waste of money to invest on MAC to go to schools when windows is more common here in spain. So I agree with the idea that Apple is using this to tell kids: we are the best brand of computer.
I posted this comment ten days ago but i had a mistake and i did it as anonymous... so i guess it must be posted somewhere..
